Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), along with its subsidiaries, has announced the payment of over ₦402 billion in taxes for the year 2024, solidifying its position as the highest taxpayer in Nigeria. The disclosure was made by Anthony Chiejina, the company’s Chief Branding and Communication Officer, in a statement released on Thursday.
Chiejina revealed that Dangote Industries Limited and its subsidiaries, including Dangote Cement, NASCON, Dangote Packaging Limited, and others, remitted a total of ₦402.319 billion in taxes for the year. He emphasized the company’s commitment to fulfilling its fiscal responsibilities as a responsible business entity, contributing to government revenue at all levels and supporting host communities through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
The announcement comes on the heels of recognition by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), which named DIL and its subsidiary, Bluestar Shipping, as the most tax-compliant organizations in Nigeria. The recognition was conferred during the FIRS Special Day at the 2024 Lagos International Trade Fair, organized by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).
The FIRS, Nigeria’s primary agency for assessing, collecting, and accounting for federal taxes, lauded Dangote Group for its exemplary compliance and contribution to the nation’s economy. Over the past four decades, Dangote Group has evolved into a diversified conglomerate, playing a pivotal role in driving Nigeria toward self-sufficiency in cement and refined petroleum products. The company has also expanded its operations rapidly across Africa, further cementing its status as a continental industrial powerhouse.
In addition to its tax compliance accolades, Dangote Cement, the group’s flagship subsidiary and Nigeria’s leading cement manufacturer, was honored with three awards at the FMDQ Gold Awards in Lagos. The subsidiary was recognized as the most active business in the Foreign Exchange market, underscoring its significant impact on Nigeria’s economic landscape.
Dangote Group’s consistent commitment to tax compliance and corporate responsibility highlights its role as a key driver of Nigeria’s economic growth and development. The company’s contributions not only bolster government revenue but also reinforce its reputation as a leader in sustainable business practices.
