US Companies Express Interest in Investing in Nigeria – Blinken



During his tour of Africa, U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken made a significant stop in Abuja, where he held a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa. Blinken conveyed the eagerness of American companies to forge partnerships and invest in the Nigerian economy.

In a bilateral meeting with Tinubu, Blinken, who arrived in Nigeria as part of his four-nation African tour, reiterated the commitment of the United States to strengthen ties with democracies in the subregion, particularly in the midst of ongoing global challenges.

The visit, aimed at reinforcing the United States’ dedication to robust relationships with African democracies, underscores the significance of the region amidst current global crises. Blinken, greeted at the forecourt of President Tinubu’s office at 6.55 pm, is also slated to visit Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, and Angola as part of his diplomatic tour.

Prominent Nigerian government officials, including Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris, and Minister of Solid Minerals Development Dele Alake, extended a warm welcome to the U.S. Secretary of State.

Following the productive meeting, Blinken is scheduled to conduct a joint press conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs before heading to Lagos later in the evening. In Lagos, he plans to engage with the local business community, continuing discussions on potential partnerships and investment opportunities. The visit signifies a positive step towards fostering economic collaboration between the United States and Nigeria.
